This Halifax outpost of the PEI microbrewery and brew pub is located right on the water with plenty of windows to let in the view. Given those Island roots, it's not surprising that PEI Malpeques dominate the oyster menu. Oysters from around the Malpeque Bay's perimeter display very different characteristics, and this is the place to compare them. Of the four to six varieties you'll see any given night, one or two – Northern Nova, perhaps, or Cape North – also come from NS suppliers.
Even though it's located in an historic property, Gahan House is a relaxed place to meet up with friends for some wings and brews, with the space's exposed brick and old wood utilized to create a friendly ambience. Located along the Harbourfront, you can enjoy ale crafted on premises along with wings in a stout honey garlic, maple mustard or 1772 IPA BBQ sauce.
The Gahan House is situated right on the Halifax waterfront, in close proximity to hotels and office towers, so it can get pretty busy during peak dining hours. Your best bet is to go in the late afternoon and try to grab a table by the water. There are seven taps pouring Gahan’s Charlottetown-brewed beers, as well as a few house beers that resident brewmaster, Karen Allen, brews on site. There is an oyster bar stocked with PEI’s best, and a pub-style menu with decent burgers and seafood.
