Consistently good quality and easily one of my top choices for Sushi in the area.
We've always enjoyed Shiki's food and have been frequenting this restaurant for about 10+ years. We've always had great sushi, great miso soup, salad, and love their dressing. If you want good sushi, then Shiki is one of the best in London. BUT...the atmosphere is terrible, lighting is terrible, no music. The restaurant is in great need of some major cleaning and renovations. It smells of oil and is filthy. We still eat here or we pick it up because we like their sushi but I think this restaurant could be a lot busier and do very well for themselves if they looked after the restaurant itself. The waitress was great and I would have given her a 5 but apparently the cooks were bored and made everything at once. We got our soup, salad and meal all at once which is one of my biggest pet peeves! It happened to the table next to us as well and the couple complained. Why do restaurants do this? I wasn't happy but I really enjoyed the food and will be back. I really hope the owner reads this review because it would be great to visit this restaurants again and the place is cleaned up and they learn how to serve a meal properly.
Been many times and always a great meal. Authentic Japanese food and amazing sushi and tempura. Always greeted with kind hostesses and food is quick and delicious. Highly recommended!
We had the hibachi scallop special and from the first bite, we knew we were in for a treat. Moments later our deluxe "sushi A" sampler came to the table. The fish was fresh and tasty, the sticky rice seasoned appropriately. As this was our first time, we tried to sampler in order to get an idea as to what to expect from other sushi on the menu. It was predictably tame, unfortunately, but the quality was superb. We'll be back to try a little of the more 'daring' varieties on the menu - although admittedly, their selection is more modest than I'd like. They do offer shabu-shabu on the menu, though, something a little more difficult to find outside of a major metropolitan area. We'll have to give that a try one day, too. A nice place to take company, I think, if they're into sushi.
The sushi here makes you forget your in London and not in Toronto or BC. I have tried a lot of different sushi places in London and have to say I was not very impressed, that is until I found this place. The sushi is fresh the selection is large and more importantly it is cut and prepared properly. Thank you Shiki.
I'm SO jealous that such good sushi is all the way out in London! The hostess and owner is the sweetest Japanese woman I have ever met! She was really attentive to me and my raucous team of artists, and kept the place open til midnight just for us, including the kitchen. My members were EXTREMELY fickle with their individual orders and kept changing things in the set plates and speaking over each other in their orders. Somehow she got every single one of them right and was super patient with us. She was SO super nice! The food is so fresh and nice and I'm astounded by how good the sushi was. I've eaten sushi all over the world including Japan, and this is really good sushi, especially with their VERY reasonable price point. They have such a diverse menu and covers a lot of Japanese dishes neglected in typical restaurants. Especially their dessert menu. I even took the plunge to order Toro, which I'm very picky about since tuna can get really fishy if not fresh; I was really satisfied with it. The attention paid to the Green Dragon Roll was unbelievable; the avocado was so thinly sliced and layered beautifully on top in a way I've never seen done before. I was SO impressed. This is also the first place I've found Kirin in. I've seen it on menus elsewhere, including Toronto, but they never actually serve it. The place was sectioned like a typical traditional style Japanese restaurant. Not super high scale, but I could care less. It was clean and tidy and gave a lot of privacy to parties. The wood was warm and I felt very relaxed. Surprisingly, when I talked to my Japanese teacher about this place later, she actually knew it, having visited it and really liked it 5 years ago. That says something too right? I NEED to return to London to try out the rest of their fabulous menu!
One of the best Japanese food restaurants this side of Toronto. Always greeted with courtesy. Great menu selections. Their "secret" salad dressing is one of their best features. If you don't know what to order, why not try their Shiki Bento! It has a little of everything. It's a little pricey, but it includes salad, miso soup, appetizers, main course and green tea ice cream! Yummy! Can't wait to return.
I've been frequenting this place for over 10 years. The fresh sashimi and sushi keep me coming back. Over the years, I've had the chance to sample 90% of the menu. The dishes are all very authentic. The presentation of the dishes are simple for a japanese restaurant, not as fancy as some other places, but the taste makes up for it. The service is friendly but could use more attentiveness. The atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. I will definitely keep coming back, as I love sashimi and this place offers a great selection, and the fish is always fresh.
I'm from Toronto and have had eaten at plenty of high end sushi places there. This might be some of the best Japanese food I've ever had. We ordered a variety of rolls (eg: spicy tuna, california, dragon, etc...), sashimi, miso soup and kaiso salad. Everything was fresh and delicious! The service was a bit slower than I was hoping but not in a manner that was neglectful. I think it was more to create a slower paced dining experience. I'll be back!
This place holds a special place in my heart! My husband and I used to visit this place religiously while we were dating :) We are both vegan, and this place had a secret vegetarian menu that you have to ask for to see. They were always so accomodating with special requests, too. The staff is always wonderful and friendly. If you're looking for delicious, fresh sushi options, GO HERE. It's not as obvious from the road as some of the other restaurants, as it is nestled away in the back of a parking lot - but it's really a hidden gem.
This place is the most authentic sushi place I have ever been to. The quality of the food and service is excellent. Everything, from the ginger, to the wasabi, to the green tea, to the rice on the sushi, to the generous portions of fresh fish in each bite is remarkable. We ordered the tempura, which was crispy and the paper beneath had no traces of oil on it. Very friendly staff, very accomodating. The best sushi place...
I've been to Shiki numerous times and have never had a bad experience. The service is always excellent, and the staff is very friendly. This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in London, and probably the most authentic (the owners are actually Japanese). The food is delicious and there are unique rolls (such as the Kamikaze roll) that are delicious. The best thing about the maki rolls at Shiki is that unlike most places, they don't try to use rice as filler -- allowing you to really taste the flavour of the fish/vegetables inside.
We frequent regularly. This family run business is very friendly and appreciative of their customers. They extend every courtesy and take pride in ensuring your meal is enjoyable. I'd recommend Shiki to anyone who enjoys Japanese food.
My wife and I went with another couple who had frequented Shiki before. The menu was quite extensive and everybody was able to find a meal they enjoyed. Portion sizes were excellent, and the food was very tasty. Meals took quite a long time to arrive, but it didn't impact on our experience overall.
We go thru Canada from our home in Michigan to visit relatives in NY and Mass. I was looking for a place near the freeway. We had to turn around two times to find this place. One side of its sign is gone, and it's tucked back away from the road; it's name is only visible above the canopy. Look for a set of newish brick buildings. We arrived at 2 p.m. and had a very nice lunch. My cold noodle special (can't remember the name!) was good, with very fresh ingredients. I snuck pieces of sushi and tempura from my hubby's Shiki Special - YUMMYO. They had green tea ice cream for dessert and a special - mochi ice cream. Mochi is a glutinous rice paste. They roll it out thinly and cover a patty of ice cream with it. It maintains a faintly chewy texture. The flavors were lovely. The ladies' room was very clean, and the service polite and attentive.
You're always guaranteed an amazing meal and a great experience. get the teriyaki and the sushi. best Japanese in London Ontario.
This is by far the best Japenese food I have ever had in London and I have tried most of the other Japanese restaraunts in town. The food there compares to some of the better sushi houses in Vancouver (my hometown- a city known for excellent, fresh sushi). I would even venture to say that our meal was as good as those we had when we visited Japan a few years ago. This place is a real hidden gem!Prices are reasonable.
If you want Canadianized garbage like chicken balls don't go here. If you want the best truely authentic food this is your place. Considering how far we are from the ocean they are the best for fresh seafood!
It is the best in town for japanese food. Service is great. Would highly recommend it.
This is an authentic Japanese restaurant with Japanese owners. They take pride in their food that they serve. The service is excellent and the food is exeptional. Thank you for a truly Japanese dining experience. We will be back.
