Family is an integral part of David Rego’s life and business. The owner of the hip D Square Salon is deeply grateful for his parents, as they played a central role in getting his hair salon off the ground - so much so that he honoured them by including his family name in the salon’s. “The way my last name is spelled is ‘David Dorego’,” he says. “When my parents came to Canada, they dropped the ‘D-O’ and just kept ‘Rego’ to make it a little easier. But my dad kept it,” explains David, who named the Salon D Square to honour his family name.
David’s parents did more than just help him open D Square; they actively supported and encouraged him when styling hair was still a dream for David. “Anything I’ve done, they’ve been there for me and I’ve been able to achieve pretty much everything because of that.”
Grateful for their support, David happily includes his parents as customers for life at D Square. “My parents come every four to five weeks. I think they take advantage,” he jokes, “but that’s okay. I’m not going to complain. They raised me and they deserve the free haircuts.”
