Meet the owner

Chez Vito butchers is a mainstay of the Mile End, offering up steaks, pork cuts, roasts, sausages and more to a grateful neighbourhood since 1984. It was opened by Vito Magistrale, father of Luca and Vitino, who have now taken over much of the day to day running of the shop.

“My Dad always wanted his own business,” Luca says. “He had already worked as a butcher for 15 to 20 years. It wasn’t expensive to set up at the time.” In the early ’80s the Mile End was a predominantly Greek neighbourhood, which reflected most of the clientele. “They were people we knew, people who worked nearby. It wasn’t easy at the beginning. Things were slow, but the clientele was steady.”

“For the first five years we were down the street, renting. There was a fire so we had to start again, and found this location close by.” The business started growing at around that time, as the neighbourhood changed. People loved the family-run atmosphere and the way the staff interacted with the customers, getting to know them and what they wanted.

    I was told this place was - but wow they are GREAT. I was planning a big family dinner - went here for my meat and was delighted with the service. I was explained all the options, provided with recommendations, and offered tips on how to cook the meat. I left with a smile on my face, great cuts (which turned out delicious) and notes on how to prepare and present the food! As i said - WOW.....

    AMAZING!

    I was so happy when my friends in the Mile-End told me about this shop. A family-owned gem! The guys are so nice, the food is sooooo good and the quality is unbelievable! Even if I moved to another neighborhood, I would still come back! If you live in the Mile-End, or even pass by, go to Chez Vito's- you will NOT be disappointed!
