For Jonathan Etco, the owner of Boutique Blo in Montreal’s trendy Plateau neighbourhood, getting into the clothing businesses was an easy decision. His parents have been clothing wholesalers for a long time, so it seemed natural for him to start selling clothes as well.
Jonathan started in the retail business in high school, selling vintage clothing and recycled Levi’s. In 1996, he opened his own store at Van Horne and Victoria. Two years later he moved to a new location on Mount Royal Avenue. “This side of Mount Royal from St. Denis to Saint Laurent was basically the headquarters for vintage clothing. There were probably 20 shops just on this one block,” Jonathan points out.
