Tucked away in south Edmonton, Izakaya Tomo represents Japanese tapas-style cuisine, where the emphasis is on drinking, whether its beer, sake or shochu, and sampling light dishes to go along with your drink. Order daikon salad, beef tataki and crispy spicy tuna roll to go along with your Sapporo. Super-friendly service makes this an excellent place to hang out with friends.
When you think noodles and pasta, Japanese places don’t usually come to mind. But, eating the carbonara udon at Izakaya Tomo might change your way of thinking! Japanese cuisine, particularly in Tokyo, actually has a very interesting take on typical Italian pasta dishes! They take these pastas and put their own twist on it. Definitely a unique and fun experience!
Izakaya Tomo is always a top pick when I’m looking for a Japanese street food experience. I’ve tried most items on the menu and enjoy all of them, particularly the beef tataki, tuna tataki, tako yaki and a hot bowl of niku udon. Save room for dessert and try the green tea ice cream sandwich. To avoid a lineup, go later at night, as they’re open until midnight or later, depending on the day of the week.
