While you're preparing your chopsticks to pick up our scrumptious food, you may be curious about our history. It all began in the 1970s, when Shigeru Hirai owned and operated one of the first Japanese restaurants in Vancouver, Maneki, located on East Hastings Street.
A staple for Japanese food lovers, Fujiya's flagship location is filled with a huge selection of cooking sauces, sweet and savoury snacks, and a deli with pre-made Japanese side dishes for those looking for an easy add-on to their meal. If you're hungry, don't forget to take a break in the in-store dining area and try their huge selection of sushi and yummy bento boxes made by in-house staff.
I’ve been a fan of this Fujiya location since their opening and became an even greater fan when they started selling bento boxes. Sometimes I’m feeling a little rushed but still want to make a delicious dinner; Fujiya has two different marinated sablefish – one in miso and one in sake lees – and salted mackerel for a quick feast. The sell all the Japanese hits: soba noodles, green tea, Japanese curry, miso, rice bran for making your own pickles, sea urchin paste (which is great on grilled eggplant) and many flavours of Pocky.
