Originally founded in 1894, the WMC Provides a stage for young artists in a five-concert series Provides annual scholarships to young Manitoba musicians (since 1915)Since 2006, administers the biennial WMC McLellan Competition for Solo Performance with OrchestraThe Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg, formed in 1894, is the oldest continuously operating musical organization in Winnipeg, and continues its long tradition of providing a stage for some of the talented young Canadian artists about to embark on an international career.Our stage has been graced in the past by such stars as Amelita Galli-Curci (1920), Zara Nelsova (1945), Teresa Stratas (1963) and Anton Kuerti (1979) to name but a few. More recently we have recognized the talent of Jasper Wood, Susan Platts, Naida Cole and Denise Djokic.
