Vanessa and Natasha Smardenka were just two sisters with a dollar and dream. Vanessa had been slinging drinks in Toronto for years while Natasha worked in fashion. Neither of them were satisfied with the daily grind and working with one another was something they’d always dreamed of. “We grew this out of a dream and couldn't be more grateful for all the help and inspiration from our friends and family,” says Natasha, who opened I’ll Be Seeing You in December 2015 with her sister.
When they opened, almost everything in the bar was either found or borrowed. “It’s like American Horror Story plus a fairy tale fantasy equals whimsical madness,” says Vanessa, describing the decor, which includes a unicorn taxidermy on one wall, vintage plates on another and a coffee table that was purchased for $5 at Habitat for Humanity.
