By the time Annie Clavette has finished parking her big orange truck in the Old Port, people have begun to mill about, rather conspicuously awaiting the green light to line up and place their orders for her famous Bavarian-inspired street food. “Fifteen minutes, max!” Annie tells them with a grin as she zips around inside and outside the truck, getting everything ready for the day.
DAS Food Truck is a labour of love for Annie and her husband, Stefan, whose shared passion for food trucks existed long before Montreal saw its 66-year ban on street food lifted in 2013. “We were always watching TV shows about food trucks, or going to the United States and eating at food trucks,” says Annie. When her uncle suggested they open a restaurant, they weren’t completely sold on the idea, but when the idea of a restaurant on wheels came up, everything seemed to click.
This truck offers a German-inspired menu featuring, among other items, chicken schnitzel, Bratwurst sausage and the ever-popular Bavarian poutine sauce. Guten appetit!
