When Cengiz Gunes came to Canada from Turkey he noticed that Turkish food wasn't really available anywhere. He decided to change that and introduce Montrealers to one of Turkey’s most popular dishes: the baked potato.
“We call it kumpir,” says Dilek Altun, Cengiz's business partner who joined him shortly after he opened the shop in 2004. “It’s like a hot dog in New York, it’s sold on the street, everywhere in Turkey.” Adds Cengiz, “here poutine is popular, there the baked potato is popular.”
