Caroline Roy, owner of Centre Caroline Roy, specializes in addiction treatment through cognitive behavioural and humanistic therapies. “I’ve always been someone who is interested in others, in how to help people. This is why, in my early twenties, I became a massage therapist," says Caroline. She also volunteered at a therapy centre, which ignited an interest in working in that type of environment. "I wanted to understand how and why certain individuals come to live awful situations and adopt self-destructive behaviour."
Caroline began studying addictions initially out of curiosity, but she quickly developed a passion for this type of counselling. In university, she studied mental health and psychology, as well as impact therapy and neurolinguistic programming. After working in different places, Caroline realized there was "not enough room for innovation or for understanding what is happening in the brain of someone living with addictions." Her passion grew and she found she wanted to do more than study the subject; Caroline wanted the tools to help people affected by harmful dependencies.
So, Caroline decided to open her own centre. She and her team find a great place located in the forest, bordered by the magnificent Chaudière River and far from the stress of urban centres. It is in Saint-Ludger, in the Eastern Townships, that the centre opened its doors in 2009.
