Opa!: Best Greek restaurants in Calgary

It’s all Greek to me, and deliciously so. Calgary’s Greek restaurants feature a mix of classic and updated Mediterranean cuisine. Here are a few of the city’s best.

Calypso Greek Taverna

1
2101 Centre St NW, Calgary, AB T2E 2T2

An old-school Greek restaurant that’s got its act together, Calypso serves all your favourites from mousaka to spanakopita. The charbroil grill selection is recommended. It starts with souvlaki and Greek ribs and also features a pork loin chop and a 10-ounce New York steak.

Pegasus Restaurant

2
4824 16 St SW, Calgary, AB T2T 4J5

A well-known Calgary Greek spot, Pegasus serves flavourful Greek cuisine in a fun setting. Try entrees such as orzo casserole (chicken or lamb), boneless grilled leg of lamb and the Greek-inspired lamb burger. Combination platters featuring dips with appetizers or sample-sized main-course items are great for sharing.

The quintessential Mexican meal, tacos are also a relatively scarce commodity in Calgary. However, we’ve done some digging and unearthed the select few restaurants that make truly marvelous versions of these hand-held snacks.
The city’s summer season features a delicious dance card of culinary festivals and events. Many, such as Stampede-time pancake breakfasts, are easy to access the day of, but the various tasting and tippling shindigs listed here can fill up quickly, so purchasing tickets sooner than later for these foodie festivities is recommended. The city’s pathway system is one of the longest in North America. Given its lengthy stretches, the occasional rest and snack stop, though few and far between, are a welcome sight when walking, biking and inline skating. Here are a few restaurants, cafés and snack shacks located on or near our scenic cycling system. Image credit: iStock.com/mihailomilovanovic.
