With its beachy vibe and laid-back feel, this east end Toronto neighbourhood is made for patios. Dine and drink merrily under the summer sun or twinkling lights in a place where every day feels like the weekend.
You neither have to dress up nor down to feel at home on this Queen East patio that seats groups, couples or singles. The cocktails won’t break the bank and are fun, fruity and summery – totally fitting for bevvies that are served a stone’s throw from the lake. The menu includes reliable pub grub with a touch of imagination, and weekend breakfast goes until 4 p.m. so you can have beer with the first meal of the day.
The Gull and Firkin patio overlooks Queen Street East so there’s that lively buzz, but it’s slightly elevated from street level so there’s no need to get too friendly with passersby. The hearty menu includes a daily Bevvy and Bites option, which is kind on the wallet, and more than 15 beers on tap. This pub is the real deal, and part of it is outdoors under the midday sun and the summer evening sky. Heaven!
This stretch of Kingston Road may be a little short on patios but those it does have are worth visiting. The Loop patio is roomy and relaxed with plenty of umbrella shade for individual tables. The east end gastropub offers a selection of eclectic dishes which are, amazingly, cooked in a tiny kitchen that's open late. The curries and lamb burgers are worth trying on a summer’s evening.
One of the local institutions, this place has an old world charm mixed with a hipster vibe which is part and parcel of The Beaches dining. With the cafe’s location in a leafy old neighbourhood, the patio is the place to be when it warms up, and on live music nights you can stay put as the melodies waft through the open doors. Enjoy solid cafe food at good prices and bring your own wine for a reasonable corkage fee.
