Hands can betray age, because the skin dries out more easily. A weekly manicure will help prevent dry hands or cracked nails, but for radiating hands in all circumstances, do not hesitate to provide them with basic care and massages based on the following preparations.

1. Prepare peppermint gel

This scented preparation gives hands their softness back.

Ingredients

  • 5 g (1 tsp) honey
  • 30 g (2 tbsp) glycerin
  • 30 g (2 tbsp) arrowroot powder
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) cold mint tea
  • 5 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 5 drops essential oil of frankincense

Preparation

  • Heat the honey and glycerin on low heat, stirring constantly.
  • Add the arrowroot and whisk the mixture.
  • Remove from heat and add the tea and oils.
  • Let the preparation cool slightlyand pour it into a glass jar with lid (it should not be aluminum).
  • Use this gel while massaging.

2. Concoct a cuticle care oil 

The essential oils that make up this preparation heal cracked and damaged cuticles. Those of calendula (marigold) and myrrh are antiseptic and prevent the most common nail infections. As for lavender, it provides anti-inflammatory and healing action.

Ingredients

  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) jojoba oil
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) avocado oil
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) calendula (marigold) oil
  • 5 drops essential oil of myrrh
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil

Preparation

  • Pour the jojoba, avocado and calendula (marigold) oils into a darkly coloured glass bottle to ensure their good conservation.
  • Add the essential oils, close the bottle and shake it to mix the ingredients.
  • Before use, shake the bottle again; a few drops are needed each day to massage the nails and cuticles and avoid cracking.

3. Make a balm with honey and almond oil

To moisturize your nails, seal them with essential rosehip oil in small circular motions. Then massage your hands with this soothing balm that also protects you in case of cuts and scratches.

Ingredients

  • 2 capsules of 1 g of lecithin
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) rosewater
  • 5 g (1 tsp) honey
  • 90 ml almond oil
  • 15 g (1 tbsp) cocoa butter
  • 10 g (2 tsp) beeswax granules
  • 10 drops essential lavender oil
  • 10 drops essential oil of rose

Preparation

  • Mix the contents of the lecithin capsules with rose water. Also mix into the double boiler the almond oil, cocoa butter and beeswax pellets.
  • Heat, stirring until the beeswax is melted. Stir in the lecithin/rose water mixture using a whisk. Remove from the heat. Add the essential oils.
  • Let the preparation cool slightly before pouring it into a glass jar (the cover must not be aluminum). This balm is used in the daily massage of the nails and cuticles at bedtime. It keeps for six months in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
  • If you do not have a double boiler, place one saucepan inside of another, while ensuring that the bottom of the upper container is not in contact with the boiling water from the second saucepan.
