How you can squeeze more time into the day to let you complete your projects

If you have a special project like writing a book or a home business in the works, finding time when you already have a day job can be a challenge. Here are four tips in making the most of every moment.

Squeezing in more time for a special project

1. Allocate time

  • One of the best ways of squeezing in an extra moment or two for working on a project is to wake up 30 minutes earlier each day. This gives you 30 minutes of dedicated time to work on your book or creation.
  • Once you do this a few times, you'll find it becomes natural. If you prefer the evening when children have gone to bed, then go to bed 30 minutes later instead.

2. Cut out social media

  • Social media is useful when creating a business or a writer platform, but checking your accounts can take up precious time.
  • Focus on what you have to do in the time you have and leave Twitter, Facebook, and email until you have finished your work.
  • Close the browser until you have finished the task at hand, and you'll feel more productive right away.

3. Take a break

  • When you are working on a project, sitting for hours on end can get tiring. Fatigue can make you more susceptible to distractions like computer games and browsing online, and before you know it time has been lost.
  • Take a break: have a coffee, go for a walk around the block, and refresh yourself. You'll be more productive as a result.

4. Get organized

  • One of the biggest time wasters is looking for files, letters and other things necessary for your project. Get organized by having a robust filing system.
  • Keep your desk space clear and free of clutter. Make sure you regularly clear your office of papers and other items that make losing things easy.
  • Make sure you have key equipment at hand and are not continually searching for spares. Once everything has a home you'll surprise yourself with how much time you save.
