He has acquired advanced green builder certification from Green Builder College in Houses That Work, Practical Green Building, Wood Structural Framing, Not So Big House Essentials, and Greening the Interior courses. Justen keeps up to date with innovative sustainable building practices, materials and technology by frequently attending workshops and conferences (such as Building Smart seminars and the Kimberley Sustainable Building and Living Conference), and by maintaining membership with the Cascadia Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council.
