The last review but one comments "The haddock was a little soft and greasy which made me think that the oil was not that fresh.....the bread was not fresh and you couldn't eat the crust....coleslaw...not too soggy.." Greasy haddock, not fresh oil, stale, inedible bread, and soggy coleslaw; and this deserves a '9'!! Come on Burlington, with a little effort the people at the Thistle could do a lot better, but they won't if you continue to tolerate and even praise such appalling quality.
VERY ORDINARY AND NOT GOOD VALUE FOR THE MENU PRICES
This was the last chance I was going to give this restaurant. It is supposed to have good fish and chips, but they are marginal at best. Very disappointing yet again.
The service was fantastic and we had a friendly and personable server. She seemed to know all of the customers by name, and she was really helpful with making suggestions (since I didn't want chips) and ended up saving us some money. The portions were generous and the batter on the fish was not too thick. The haddock was a little soft and greasy which made me think that the oil was not that fresh. The onion rings were perfectly cooked and the fries looked great. The bread however, was stale and you couldn't eat the crust. BEST coleslaw in town. It's a little sweeter than most, but it's not too soggy. The pastry tray at the end had authentic British pastries and the pot of tea comes out in a nice cozy to keep it warmer longer. Overall, a fantastic fish & chip place - just expect to wait for a table no matter what night of the week it is since it gets so busy.
Dated and drab, with food to match. A throw back to 1940's Britain, where most of the clientele seem to have originated. A very ordinary restaurant with nothing special to offer. Bears no comparison to contemporary fish restaurants to be found in the UK nowadays. May be cheap, but not value for money. Needs a makeover!
