We are Americans living in London. My wife is from Las Cruces, New Mexico I am from Sonora, Texas. We are used to a little different style of Mexican food, but thoroughly enjoyed our experience and food at Under the Volcano. This is probably the 10th or 12th time we've been since moving here in May of 2005. Hard to believe some of the other reviews I've read. The cayenne beef is excellent, hot but with lots of flavor. We've always enjoyed the jovial interaction with the staff. If you're a crotchety fuddy-dud, don't go. The owners and staff enjoy joking around with you and making sure you have a good experience.
6 of us went and ordered different things. Not one person was pleased with the food. They sent me the wrong meal, took it back and resent another wrong meal. After and 1.5 hour I had to leave with a take out. Not one person who ordered a beef dish would eat it, not even the 19 year old who eats anything, it tasted like dog food. My takeout sat in the fridge and no one would touch it. What a ruined birthday dinner that was. That's twice for us. We'll never go back. Absolute garbage. And no sort of compensation for me going without a meal. Cram this place!

ive been here three times. the first two times i ordered one of the 'healthier' quesadillas (low-fat cheese, beans etc.) and they were delicious! i am very picky and this was great food. the last time i went here with my boyfriend and we split the 1/2 price chicken fajitas, we were both impressed, delicious and generous portion! and this was on the cheap night where most restaurants skimp. We love the atmosphere too. Servers have always been great.

After reading the past reviews I was shocked....I used to come here 10 years ago when I was a student and loved it...and now I have moved back to London, my husband and I have been enjoying meals there at least once a month. The service and food is always excellent! The best value (take note students) is the all-you-can-eat tacos on Tues, but we really enjoy the beef fajitas - the beef is so tender and melts in your mouth. And you can't beat the homemade nachos and salsa (best I've ever had). We have never had a bad experience and I regularly recommend this restaurant to friends and coworkers. Enjoy!
