“I had a very romantic childhood in New Brunswick,” says Dr. Paul Donovan, partner at Whites Road Animal Hospital. My dad was a farm vet and when I wasn’t at school, I’d be out working with him. Dad was kind of like the James Herriot (famed British veterinarian and author) of my life. I think I gave more injections to cows as a young boy than I ever have as a vet!”

When it came to making a decision about what to do with his life, it was an easy choice for the future Dr. Donovan. He wanted to be a vet like his dad and grandfather, only he had a special affinity for pets rather than farm animals, so he decided to study them. “I have always liked dogs and cats," he recalls. "So it was a natural fit.”

Dr. Donovan graduated from The University of Guelph, like his father and grandfather before him, and went on to set up Whites Road Animal Hospital in 1990 with clinic partner Dr. John Birch. Colleagues Dr. Adam Thompson and Dr. Jason Ellis now complete the team of vets who rotate between the clinic and a satellite operation a few kilometres away.

“We offer medicine and surgical care for dogs and cats and we do also do a few pocket pets,” notes Dr. Donovan. For convenience, pet owners can book appointments and download records at any time of the day through the clinic’s special software.

My cat was not feeling well and having accidents around the house, which was completely out of character. The staff were kind, patient and helped me figure out what was wrong and even changed her diet to ensure that it would help her. A couple of week later and there are no more accidents and she is feeling much better. I highly recommend Whites Road Animal Hospital for your fur babies.
