When you walk into Rod, Gun & Barbers, you can't help but get the sense that this compact spot is not like any other barbershop. Not only can you get a cut and shave, but it’s also a bar and a music venue. Yup, that means you can enjoy a cold one during while getting coiffed, and in the evening, catch a little live music to boot.
Jeff James opened the Junction barbershop in 2014, and is proud to say that it’s one of the only of its kind in Canada. “A buddy of mine I played hockey with became a barber, and at the same time my landlord was a barber," he explains. "So, I lived behind a barber shop and we used to sit in his place after hours with all the guys from the hockey team and we'd drink and watch hockey. I thought, well, everybody would like this experience; instead of keeping this as a private little thing, why not take it to the public?”
Gentlemen on the hunt for refined grooming are welcome at Rod, Gun & Barbers, whose decor is inspired by a traditional rod and gun club. Make an appointment or simply walk in for a cut and shave, Cuban cigar, shot of single malt or all of the above. Clients’ needs are taken seriously here, where sport-watching, darts and a beer parlour offer ample opportunities to do more than get a clean look.
