We came in 1st place at the Waterloo Ice dogs Chili Cookoff, with our delicious Maple Bacon Chipotle Chili. We were also awarded with a 2012 'Entrepreneur of the year' award in the food and hospitality industry by the City of Waterloo for our work with the cafe and Cheeses Murphy.
I only had their desserts and coffee, which was good. The highlight was the service. The guy at the counter was surprisingly friendly and took his time talking to me about desserts. I will go back to try panini and soup.
In spite of my previous review of this Cafe, I decided to try again. In fact, I've tried twice since, and been happy on both occasions, ordering the turkey panini and a garden salad. The first time, I did find a hair on my plate at the bottom of the salad, but chose to overlook it. My only other criticism would be the length of time you have to wait as your order is prepared. I had the time to give, but others may be in more of a hurry.
We went here for lunch this week. I ordered the daily soup and bread and my partner ordered the club sandwich. The soup was appropriately hot and had a spicy taste I didn't mind, but it looked terribly greasy. The bread was pretty much of the Wonder variety - uninspiring. My husband's sandwich came on a multigrain bun that was no bigger than the size of a hamburger bun you'd get in a value-pack. It wasn't nice and tall like other club sandwiches either, and the bacon was way undercooked. Thankfully he noticed before eating it all; he's lucky he didn't get sick. The lunch was way overpriced and it didn't look like the place was very clean or that they wiped down the tables frequently. We would not eat here again.
What can I say? I've been to virtually every establishment in Uptown Waterloo over the past seven years, and the Princess Café has firmly established itself as my ultimate favourite.
First off, the food is universally fantastic. The daily soups are intriguing and always delicious, the salads fresh and crisp, and the paninis deserve their reputation as the best in the city. The Italian hot chocolate is truly to die for, a warm symphony of bittersweet chocolate pudding. Outstanding.
The staff is fantastic. Regulars are warmly received, and new patrons should expect an unassuming, friendly environment that is conducive to everything from reading a good book with a tea, a bite to eat before a flick, or nice meal with good company. I can spend $10 here and get a more satisfying meal than anywhere else on King. Brava, Princess.
