Pick up any box of supermarket cookies and have a look at the ingredients list. It might lead you to wonder what palm oil is good for and why high-fructose corn syrup is a better way to sweeten than regular sugar—never mind dextrose and artificial flavourings. Vanessa McLarty, who co-founded Kookie Queens with sister Kamika, set out to address these concerns by launching the small cookie factory. “We asked ourselves why something so wholesome and simple needed so many ingredients, and decided to prove our point," says Vanessa.
In a fast-paced, penny-pinching world, Kamika and Vanessa decided to go against the grain by creating a line of affordable, quality cookie doughs using familiar ingredients. “It’s important for us to know what we are eating, and a way to do that is to use every day pantry staples," Vanessa explains. "Our cookie doughs contain zero chemical ingredients, nothing hydrogenated and no artificial flavours. Kookie Queens is our way to combine our sweet tooth with our passion for healthy eating.” The sisters launched an online shop to sell their range of raw dough and baked cookies in December 2013.
